We recently asked our Justees to take pictures around Putney HQ of what they thought really ‘shouted’ Just::
Along with photos of creative get-togethers like our Just:: Invents, our Friday afternoon ‘Pub in the Hub’ drinks, and walls full of award certificates, a lot of people submitted pictures taken of Post-it notes and Sharpie markers.
This week is National Stationery Week, so we decided to mark it by paying homage to these two humble items that play such a big part in our daily creative activities here at Just::
Never be surprised if we rock up to a meeting and hand a load of Post-its and Sharpies out like sweets! We feel really odd if we leave the office without them.
Walking around HQ to document how much we use them, it was immediately clear that virtually every Justee has a whole bunch of them hanging around ready to capture that electric moment of inspiration!
Among the many uses we find for our favourite stationery are:
- A cool idea that’s waiting for a home somewhere: happens quite a lot here – a brain wave or a stroke of genius… Once it’s committed to pen and paper (Sharpie and Post-it) it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a reality and is showcased to the rest of the team
- First burst: the perfect way to record the first thing that comes to mind during Invent sessions
- The day’s to-dos: Never mind writing endless lists when there are so many options for colour-coding daily tasks and making things look a little easier on the eye! In this case, the best bit is definitely watching them disappear into the bin when they’re complete
- Word of the week: That great old game of trying to shoe horn a really random word into as many sentences, calls, meetings and conversations as possible. This week’s word was ‘recalcitrant’ – not an easy one to drop in, so next week’s might be back to the Urban Dictionary #totes
- Phone messages: simple but effective – you can imagine how this one works
- Daydreaming: taking those doodles up a level and adding an air of professionalism. A great means of self-expression too, which we’re big on here
